CHOLPON-ATA, Kyrgyzstan, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Second World Nomad Games, which started in Kyrgyzstan's northern Issyk-Kul region from Sept. 3, ended on Thursday.
The closing ceremony of the Games was held at the hippodrome in the resort town of Cholpon-Ata. After the concert, with the participation of local and famous foreign celebrities, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Sooronbay Zheenbekov declared the Games closed.
Zheenbekov said, "The World Nomad Games are aimed at preservation and development of not only sports, but also the culture of nomadic civilization."
He also said that about 800 million people around the world had the opportunity to follow this new event. More than 500 journalists covered the games, and more than 300 out of them were foreign journalists.
The Games brought together over 1,500 athletes from 62 countries and regions to compete in 26 events. In total 387 medals have been awarded.
Kyrgyzstan topped the medal tally with 25 gold, 25 silver and 29 bronze medals, followed by Turkmenistan with 15-3-6, and Kazakhstan 12-13-13.
China won four bronze medals.
The first Nomad Games was held in 2014.
