SINGAPORE, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- The analysis of the Zika virus found in two locally transmitted cases in Singapore shows it belongs to Asian lineage and likely evolved from a strain already circulating in Southeast Asia since 1960s, according to Singapore's Ministry of Health and Agency of Science, Technology and Research on Thursday.
Currently, there is no evidence indicating whether the differences between these strains and the South American virus correlate with differences in severity or type of disease, said the ministry and the agency.
