YANGON, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- The trade deficit of Myanmar reached over 67 million U.S. dollars in the first five months (April-August) of this fiscal year 2016-2017 as border trade decreased, official media reported Wednesday.

According to the statistics of the ministry of commerce, the total export value reached some 264 million U.S. dollars as of August while the total import value amounted to 331.127 million U.S. dollars.

The trade deficit came from the declination of the export of green grams, mung beans and jade materials, according to the exporters.

The total trade value through both normal trade and border trade during the period was 10.73 billion U.S. dollars, of which border trade done with the four neighboring countries amounted to 2.816 billion U.S. dollars.
