DHAKA, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's export income in the first two months of the current 2016-17 fiscal year (July 2016 to June 2017) grew 8.42 percent to 5.84 billion U.S. dollars, an official said Tuesday.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) official told Xinhua that the country earned a total of 5,837.81 million U.S. dollars from export during July-August of 2016-17 fiscal compared to 5,384.34 million U.S. dollars in the same period a year earlier.
Quoting the EPB data, he said export performance for August was 3.3 billion U.S. dollars, 19.76 percent higher than that in the same month a year ago.
The official said overall export growth surged as demand for made in Bangladesh garment items have picked up.
He said readymade garment exports from Bangladesh grew at 8 percent to 4.84 billion U.S. dollars in the first two months of the current 2016-17 fiscal year.
Bangladesh set its export target in 2015-16 fiscal year at 37 billion U.S. dollars including 30.38 billion U.S. dollars from readymade garment products.
