Singapore's PM to visit Laos for ASEAN Summit

SINGAPORE, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be in Vientiane, Laos from Tuesday to Thursday to attend the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits, said the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in a statement on Monday.

As the first meeting among ASEAN Leaders following the establishment of the ASEAN Community, ASEAN leaders will discuss the "Implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the Way Forward," said PMO.

The leaders will also launch the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 and the Initiative for ASEAN Integration Work Plan III, according to the statement.

In addition, leaders will sign the ASEAN Declaration on One ASEAN, One Response: ASEAN Responding to Disasters as One in the Region and Outside the Region.

PMO added the leaders will also exchange views on regional and international issues. ASEAN leaders will meet their counterparts during the 19th ASEAN Plus Three Summit as well as related meetings. They will hold the 19th ASEAN-China Summit to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations.

PMO said Lee will be accompanied by his wife Ho Ching, Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Deputy Prime Minister and Co-ordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean will be the Acting Prime Minister while PM Lee is in Vientiane.
