BANSKA BYSTRICA, Slovakia, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- A bilingual project of the Slovak and Chinese language was started on Monday at Gymnasium Mikulasa Kovaca in Banska Bystrica, in central Slovakia.
"It's a unique project not only in Slovakia, but in the Central and Eastern Europe as well. The learning of Chinese is an advantage, because it's been a language of future," director of gymnasium Alena Paulova announced at the opening ceremony of the new school year, adding that Chinese will be learned in one class with 30 students.
"We will start with intensive learning of at least 20 hours of Chinese per week," stressed Paulova.
The opening ceremony on Monday was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Slovakia Lin Lin.
"We strongly support this unique project, which could lead to intensifying the Slovak-Chinese cooperation in the field of education," Lin pointed out.
