SYDNEY, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese chef has been appointed to run an Australian resort of 640 million Australian dollars (486 million U.S. dollars) in Queensland, which is backed by Reever and Ocean Developments Chairman Ken Lee.

Harry Sou, who was born in Hong Kong and currently heads a team of about 30 people based in the Cairns, Queensland, is pushing ahead with Lee's vision for an eco-resort to be known as KUR-World, NewsCorp reported on Monday.

Sou is well-known among Queenslanders as he runs the popular Cafe China restaurant, an internationally acclaimed Chinese restaurant in Cairns.

KUR-World is an integrated eco-tourism and innovation hub set to be built in Kuranda, Queensland. The new resort will include a luxury 200-room hotel, a three- or four-star resort, residential villa accommodation, education and business facilities, as well as health and wellbeing facilities.

The development comes after almost two years of site assessments, planning and evaluating ideas, Lee said.

Lee said Sou, who will assume the role of chief operations officer for KUR-World, was the perfect choice to run the resort and that he would be responsible for driving the venture through its first stage in 2018.

Lee was also quoted as saying that he was impressed with the professionalism and skills of people who lived in the far north of Queensland and had appointed several other locals to assume managerial positions and assist Sou in the development of the new resort.
