JAKARTA, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's disaster agency on Friday warned the people about the risks of La Nina weather phenomenon in the country.
Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of national disaster management agency said that La Nina had emerged in the country since last month and is predicted to continue until next year.
The weather phenomenon potentially increases rain intensity across Sumatra and Java islands in western Indonesia, said Sutopo in a statement.
The spokesman stressed that landslide is the most potential disaster to happen under such conditions.
Indonesia is frequently hit by landslides and floods during heavy rains leaving dozens of casualties.
Indonesian experienced El Nino weather phenomenon in 2015, triggering drought in some parts of the country.
