BANGKOK, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand is launching a road show in Beijing and Shanghai next week to draw the attention of high-end Chinese travelers to the eastern province of Trat.
The TAT branch office in Trat will lead representatives of the Trat Hotels and Resorts Association on the road show in Beijing and Shanghai from Sept. 6 until Sept. 10, confirmed office head Wanprapa Suksomboon on Friday.
The tourism agency has planned to urge prospective high-end travelers from these Chinese cities to visit Trat, which shares border with Cambodia and has a reputed resort island named Koh Chang (elephant island), according to the head of the TAT branch office.
Importantly, she said, the Chinese visitors will be strongly advised to experience the province's indigenous food, fruits and community-based custom, among other local attractions.
"We expect that number of tourists would grow 5 percent this year compared with 2015, because we may have more Chinese tourists and will try to keep the number of western tourists growing as well," said Wanprapa.
Trat province is one of Thailand's major durian-producing areas and lies next to Chantaburi province, which locates the country's largest durian plantations.
Chinese travelers may arrive by air to land at U-tapao international airport, about 150 kilometers north of Trat.
Largely favorite among varied eastern Thai destinations is the seaside resort city of Pattaya, about 180 kilometers north of Trat.
