COLOMBO, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Maldives China Trade and Cultural Organization has invited the oldest Chinese citizen allowed to travel as a tourist to visit Maldives, local media reported on Thursday.

101-year-old Liu Chengxin became the oldest Chinese outbound tourist ever after acquiring her first travel permit despite the health risk.

Vice President of Maldives China Trade and Cultural Organization Midhuam Saud said that the organization was trying to contact Liu and they were working on inviting her to the Maldives.

The Maldives government said recently that the country hoped to receive at least half a million Chinese tourists this year.

In the first 10 months of 2015, approximately 323,000 Chinese tourists visited the island country.

Maldives is applying different measures to make itself better known to Chinese tourists. In late December, the country staged road shows in Shanghai, Zhengzhou and Beijing to introduce new sites.

Moreover, Maldives is seeking to upgrade its Chinese-language tourism website, so that Chinese tourists will be able to gain direct access to the tourism resources in Maldives.
