BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- China's political advisors on Monday discussed the development of socialist art and literature.

Art and literature are an essential part of the national spirit and a crucial premise for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, members of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee said during a conference, which was attended by top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng.

However, attendees agreed that, despite current prosperity, issues and gaps remain in these circles.

Attendees called on the country's artists to create more works "centered on the people, guided by core socialist values, based on traditional Chinese culture and fueled by innovation."

During Monday's opening meeting, Vice Premier Liu Yandong called for more works that have "backbones, morality and warmth" to reflect the spirit of the times and promote Chinese ideas.

Liu urged more resources to be given to creators at the forefront and called for more efforts to stimulate art workers' creativity.
