NANNING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Ten people were killed when a bus overturned on a highway Sunday morning in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The bus driver was among those killed, police said.

The accident occurred at around 10 a.m. in Nanning, capital of Guangxi, when the 47-seat bus was approaching its destination. Another 32 people were injured, five of whom were seriously wounded, according to police in Nanning.

Ling Minhui, an injured passenger, said she was waken up when the bus rammed into guardrails. "All passengers have seats, but most did not fasten their seat belts," said Ling.

The injured have been sent to two hospitals for treatment.

The five seriously injured suffered brain and lumbar spine injuries, said a doctor at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University. One was in life-threatening condition.

An initial investigation showed that the accident might have been triggered by a sudden health condition on the part of the driver.

A further investigation is under way.

The accident once caused a traffic jam of up to six kilometers on the highway.
