Tokyo stocks fall in morning on poor consumer price data, market eyes Fed speech

TOKYO, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Friday morning as investors were in a circumspect mood ahead of a speech by U.S. Federal Reserve's chair later in the day and following disappointing consumer price data for July released this morning.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 107.95 points, or 0.65 percent, from Thursday to 16,448.00.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 9.17 points, or 0.70 percent, to 1,295.10.

Notable decliners by the morning break comprised insurance, transportation equipment and air transportation-linked stocks.
