UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council is going to discuss a report on chemical weapons attacks in Syria provided by the UN and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) on Aug. 30, said the UN on Wednesday.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he has submitted the report which outlines the in-depth probe into nine selected cases on the use of chemical weapons in Syria and provides the findings, according to a statement by his spokesperson.

"The Secretary-General is looking forward to Security Council's consideration of the report," said the statement. "The report will be available publicly shortly thereafter."

In August 2015, the 15-nation council adopted a resolution to set up a joint UN-OPCW investigative mechanism to identify the perpetrators of the deadly chlorine gas attacks in Syria.

Last year, local residents have accused Islamic State militants of using a mustard agent as a weapon against them.
