PARIS, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- French President Francois Hollande on Wednesday chaired a security council to discuss "protection against terrorist threats," his office said in a statement.

Hollande discussed with concerned ministers and army chiefs the state of terrorism menaces and took stock of measures to ensure security at the start of the new academic year next week.

The French president also outlined plans for French forces participating in military operations outside the country, the statement added.

Since November 2015, when a series of explosions and shootings left 130 victims in Paris, France raised the terror alert to the highest level and tightened security by deploying additional thousands of police officers across the country, reinstalling border control, and improving intelligence services.
