TOKYO, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended Wednesday morning higher as a solid showing on Wall Street overnight and the yen's recent retreat against the U.S. dollar made for an upbeat market mood and spurred buying.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 83.02 points, or 0.50 percent, from Tuesday to 16,580.38. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 7.80 points, or 0.60 percent, to 1,305.36.
Notable gainers by the morning break comprised transportation equipment, metal product and nonferrous metal-linked stocks. Enditem
