Nigerian president discusses terrorism, economy with Kerry

LAGOS, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday held talks with visiting U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, discussing a number of issues including counter-terrorism efforts, the economy, and the fight against corruption.

A statement reaching Xinhua from the president's office said Kerry also discussed key domestic and regional challenges including Boko Haram insurgency and the plight of the Internally Displaced Persons with Buhari.

Other engagements of the Kerry in Abuja include a meeting with some selected governors from the northern states of the country.

Earlier, Kerry also visited the sultan of Sokoto, Sa'ad Abubakar, in the country's northwest Sokoto State.
