SYDNEY, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Australia's New South Wales premier Mike Baird has fractured his vertebrae after he slipped down the stairs at his Sydney home in the middle of the night.
Local media reported on Tuesday that Baird went downstairs wearing socks with the lights out to get a glass of water when he slipped and injured his back.
Baird had posted about the incident on his Facebook account on Tuesday along with an X-ray which suggested that surgery wasn't needed.
The incident which took place during the weekend has also not deterred the premier from carrying out his duties.
A spokesman for Baird said even though the premier had suffered a sore back, he will be back at work on Tuesday to debate the state government's ban on greyhound racing at the Parliament's lower house.
