NAIROBI, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Kenya and China have vowed to strengthen bilateral ties as well as reinforce cooperation in the area of public health systems and policies to ensure health safety.

Kenya's health ministry said such collaboration will help the two countries achieve the universal health coverage and health security.

"Kenya is willing to further the good relationship by partnering with China in the health sector, particularly in establishing her own Food and Drug Administration that would ensure public health safety for her citizens," Cabinet Secretary for Health Cleopa Mailu said in a statement received on Saturday.

Mailu, who held talks with a Chinese delegation led by the Assistant Minister for China Food and Drug Administration, Guo Wenqi, in Nairobi, lauded the strong ties between Kenya and China, which have enabled the two countries to collaborate in the socio-economic fields.

The Chinese delegation is in the country to discuss issues regarding the promotion of trade, technical transfer and local production between China and Africa.

"This visit is important because it is a sign that China has interest in working together with Kenya to establish her own safety systems," Mailu noted.

Guo revealed that China plays a key role in the manufacturing of drugs, stressing that the country produces about 1 billion vaccines every year.
