RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Dilshod Nazarov secured Tajikistan's first gold medal of the Rio Olympics on Friday by winning the men's hammer throw.
The 34-year-old recorded a best throw of 78.68m to beat two-time world champion Ivan Tsikhan of Belarus by 0.89m at Rio's Olympic Park. Poland's Wojciech Nowicki claimed bronze with a best effort of 77.73m.
Nazarov was a silver medalist at the Beijing 2008 Olympics and placed 10th at the London 2012 Games.
