HANOI, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Typhoon Dianmu made landfall in northern Vietnam on Friday afternoon, according to the country's National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
The storm landed at northern Hai Phong city and Thai Binh province in northern Vietnam at around 02:00 p.m. local time (0700 GMT) on Friday, said the center.
Winds near the storm eye packed at 60-90 km per hour with gusts as high as 10-12 in Beaufort scale.
In the next 12 hours, the typhoon is forecast to move between west and west-northwestward at a speed of 15-20 km per hour, impacting Vietnam's northern and north-central areas.
Vietnam's capital Hanoi has recorded heavy rainfall at 100-200 millimeters, according to the center.
It is forecast that the typhoon will downgrade into a tropical depression early Saturday morning, and continue bringing torrential rains to northern and north-central localities. Floods and landslides have been warned.
