8,000 items on display at first Silk Road Int'l Cultural Expo

LANZHOU, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Over 8,000 precious antiques, works of art and bespoke cultural products will be on show throughout the first Silk Road International Cultural Expo in the northwestern city of Dunhuang next month.

The exhibits, from 16 countries and 15 Chinese provinces and regions, will be grouped together under various categories including antiques, fabrics, porcelain, publications, photos, designs and animations.

The 36,000-square-meter exhibition hall will have four exhibition areas.

Wang Chunding, president of Gansu Cultural Industry Development Group, said the collection includes a hand-painted Silk Road map worth 120 million yuan (18 million U.S. dollars), among other top art works from Inner Mongolia, Sichuan and various provinces along the ancient route.

Works from national museums and private collections in France, Mexico, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Italy, Germany, Greece and Iran will also be on show from Sept. 10 to Oct. 10,

The two-day Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo will open on Sept. 20. Delegates from "Belt and Road" countries will gather in the city, home to China's first UNESCO World Heritage Site the Mogao Grottoes.
