WELLINGTON, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- More than 50 New Zealand Army cadets are receiving tropical jungle training in a joint exercise with the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, the New Zealand Defense Force (NZDF) said Wednesday.

Exercise Kepimpinan, a three-week drill conducted in the Bruneian jungle, would provide close-country training in a tropical environment, NZDF Land Component Commander Brigadier Mike Shapland said.

Platoon groups would be mixed between the two countries, enabling the New Zealand personnel to learn from their Bruneian counterparts.

"The cadets will be tested by a fictional enemy party as well as the jungle environment, developing their close-country jungle warfare and giving them experience in platoon command in an unfamiliar setting," said Shapland.

"The exercise also provides experience in the conduct of an overseas deployment and reinforces the New Zealand Army's longstanding links with the Royal Brunei Armed Forces," he said.

The exercise runs until Sept. 8.
