VILNIUS, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- During the past six months, Lithuanian army has received several hundreds of used military vehicles from the Dutch army, announced the Lithuanian Defense Ministry on Tuesday.

Around 200 used Mercedes-Benz off-road combat and medical vehicles, trucks and other vehicles were brought to Lithuania in several stages, with more to be delivered, said the ministry.

"The rest of the equipment, off-road vehicles, trucks and trailers will be delivered in 2016-2017," said the ministry in a press release, revealing that the purchase has cost Lithuania 7 million euros (7.69 million U.S. dollars).

It was the second acquisition Lithuanian army has made from the Netherlands. Four years ago, the Baltic state bought vehicles, containers, communication and airport service equipment from the Netherlands, as Lithuanian defense ministry said, "for a good price".

It said the vehicles were to "supplement and update the fleet" of the country's armed forces.

Lithuania has stepped up its defense capabilities, including the army's military vehicle fleet, since 2014.
