RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 15 (Xinua) -- Dutch gymnast Sanne Wevers turned her silver medal in balance beam at last year's World Championships to a shining gold at the Rio Olympic Games here on Monday.
Wevers, 24, trailed the U.S. talent Simone Biles in the event at last year's World Championships, but scored the highest 15.466 points in the final with a stable performance.
The odds-on favorite Biles made obvious mistakes during the routine and had to settle for a third place in 14.733 points.
Biles' 16-year-old teammate Lauren Hernandez took the silver in 15.333 points.
