NEW DELHI, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- At least one Indian security forces personnel was killed and nine others were injured in a terror attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir's capital Srinagar Monday, a police official said.

"The incident took place around 8 a.m. (local time) when when personnel of the para-military Central Reserve Police Force were combing Srinagar's Nowhatta area, following a tip-off that some terrorists were hiding in the area," he said, on condition of anonymity.

He added: "Seeing the area cordoned of by the security forces, the terrorists opened fire on them from three sides. When the para-military forces retaliated, terrorists ran into neighbouring houses. In the ensuing gunbattle, one para-military officer and two terrorists were killed."

Nine others who sustained injuries have been admitted to a hospital, where the condition of three are said to be serious and they were later flown to a hospital in Delhi, the police official said.

In a separate incident, Indian security forces foiled an infiltration bid by Pakistani terrorists this morning in Uri, about 70 kms from Srinagar. Two terrorists have been killed.

The terror attack and the infiltration bid came on India's 70th Independence Day when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was addressing the nation from the ramparts of the iconic Red Fort in the national capital.
