KIEV, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Kiev Gymnasium of Oriental Languages received modern educational equipment worth about 226,000 U.S. dollars from the Chinese government, the Ukrainian Education Ministry said on Friday.

"We are grateful to the Government of the People's Republic of China for the support. I want to emphasize that such projects are very important as they demonstrate the fruitful development of bilateral relations between our countries," Roman Greba, the Ukrainian Deputy Education Minister, said in a statement.

The equipment, to be used to fit out three language-learning classrooms, will ensure smooth teaching and learning in the school, he said.

"We are confident that the new equipment will help the students of the Kiev Gymnasium of Oriental Languages to show improved results in studies, particularly in learning the Chinese language," Greba said.

Greba said the students will start lessons in the newly-equipped classrooms from the new school year, which kicks off on Sept.1 in Ukraine.

The Chinese government handed over the linguistic equipment to the gymnasium under an agreement signed with the Ukrainian government in January, 2014.

In recent years, Chinese language learning has been expanding in Ukraine as many see knowledge of Mandarin as necessary for future opportunities.

In Ukraine, there are six Confucius Institutes and about 10 higher educational establishments as well as dozens of public and private schools that offer regular Chinese language classes.
