EDINBURGH, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs Fiona Hyslop on Friday lauded the participation of Chinese performers at Edinburgh festivals this summer to promote cultural exchange and tourism.
"There are wonderful contributions from China this year and previous years," Hyslop said in an interview with Xinhua before the performance of the Experimental School of Shanghai Conservatory of Music's Concert at Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
With over 25,000 artists and tourists from about 55 countries descending in Edinburgh, Scotland and Edinburgh in summer is a showcase for the world and a platform to use, she noted.
"You will get a very warm welcome when you come to Scotland," said Hyslop, adding that "we welcome Chinese culture and other cultures, different cultures, as we are ready to learn and have much to share for you to get the idea of the flavor of Scotland spirit."
Scotland and the Chinese side are increasing collaborations across art and creative industries and the Chinese culture adds international color on the Scottish perspective, Hyslop said while addressing the audience.
Chinese Consul General in Edinburgh Pan Xinchun reviewed the history of Chinese art groups' participation at Edinburgh festivals in the past years, highlighting the cultural and people to people exchanges.
Running from Aug. 5 to 29, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2016 features more than 3,000 incredible, unique and inspiring events including over 30 Chinese events.
The Fringe, which dates from 1947, is world famous for its cultural diversity and as a display of avant garde art.
There are around 12 festivals throughout the year in Edinburgh, including Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and Edinburgh International Book Festival, among others.
