TEHRAN, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will pay an official visit to Turkey on Friday to hold talks with Turkish officials on bilateral ties and regional issues.
This is the first visit of a senior Iranian official to Ankara following the recent failed coup in the neighboring country.
The Islamic republic was among the first countries to condemn the aborted coup in Turkey and expressed support for the legitimate Turkish government.
Zarif's visit comes at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi was quoted as saying by Press TV on Thursday.
The Iranian top diplomat is also scheduled to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Enditem
