Vietnam to compete at U19 tournament in Myanmar

HANOI, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese U19 football team will compete at the U19 Invitation Cup to be held in Myanmar in August.

The tournament draws the participation of four teams from host Myanmar, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Vietnamese players are in an intensive training course in Vietnam's south central coastal Nha Trang city, and will arrive in capital Hanoi next week.

The squad will fly to Myanmar on Aug. 20, two days before the tournament, according to Vietnam's state-run news agency.

The four teams will compete in a round robin format, with the two best teams advancing to the final on Aug. 28. The winner will receive 15,000 U.S. dollars.

After attending the tournament in Myanmar, Vietnamese team will participate in the Southeast Asian U19 Championship slated for September in Hanoi.

The Southeast Asian U19 Championship sees the participation of 11 teams which are divided into two groups. Group A consists of Vietnam, Malaysia, Timor Leste, Singapore and the Philippines. Group B includes Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Australia, Cambodia and Indonesia.
