RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Ten-time world titlist Simone Biles notched her first Olympic gold at the Rio Olympics here on Tuesday as she led the United States to a convincing victory in the women's team event.

The 19-year-old Biles, who is the champion of both all-round and team events in the previous three editions of World Championships from 2013 to 2015, competed in all the four subdivisions and gained a total of 61.833 points. All of her scores on vault, floor and balance beam were the highest in the field.

"I think we are so successful because whenever we got to do our team event we believe in ourselves and our team believe in each other. That's what helps us do our best in all the work. It has not been easy but we have done everything that we could possibly done to get to where we are," said Biles.

It is the first gold Olympic gold medal for Biles, who could win a maximum of five gold medals as she has also qualified for the finals in all-round and three apparatus.

The American team took an lead of 0.700 points after the first rotation round and kept extending the margin in the remaining rounds, overwhelming the field with a winning score of 184.897 points.

It was the third women's team gold for the United States, following their triumphs in 1996 and 2012.

Russia overtook China and Japan after the last subdivision to take the silver medal with a deficit of 8.209 points. The bronze medal went to China, who are the winners of Beijing Olympics in 2008 but finished fourth in London four year ago.

The Chinese could have won a sliver as they were nearly three points ahead of the fourth placed Russia after the third rotation. But China's Mao Yi landed out of the cushion during her routine on the floor and only had 12.633 points, which was the lowest score in the entire final.

"When I was waiting for the final score, I felt more of self-blaming rather than expectation. I knew I had dragged down the whole team and I really hoped we could have a good result," said Mao in the post match press conference.

In their last subdivision of vault, Russia's third vaulter Maria Paseka scored 15.700 points to give the team an advantage of 0.685 points over China

"We believed till the end that we could win a silver. We knew we should fight until the very end and we did our best," said Paseka, who competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal in the team event and a bronze medal on the vault.

China's Shang Chunsong fell off the uneven bars during her routine and had a relatively low score of 14.333 points.

"In the next four years we will try our best to narrow the gap between the USA team and us," said the 20-year-old Shang, who is the captain of team China.
