LONDON, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- A British military helicopter was forced to land Tuesday in the mountainous region of Snowdonia, northwest Wales, after a technical problem, according to local press.
British media reported earlier that the chopper crashed on a mountaintop, but later quoted a military spokesman as saying that all four people on board had been safe.
The helicopter "safely completed a precautionary landing in Snowdonia" following a technical failure, and all "four people on board exited safely, subsequently the aircraft caught fire," the spokesman said.
TV footage showed smoke rising from the mountain area where the helicopter was believed to have landed, while witnesses saw an air ambulance had been sent to the scene along with firefighters, police and mountain rescue teams.
An air exclusion zone has been put in place in the region.
