YANGON, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar will conduct fishery research in the country's territorial waters in November and December this year, official media reported Tuesday.
The authorities will carry out the research with the assistance of Norwegian research vessel in order to compile statistics of endangered fish species and to help reverse decreasing fish resources, according to U Tun Win Myint, head of the Yangon Region Fisheries Department.
That kind of survey was also made with the assistance of Norwegian government along the Ayeyawaddy, Rakhine and Taninthayi coastal areas in November, 2013.
According to that survey, fish resources of the country declined 43 percent as compared with those in 1979-1980.
The country can catch 100,000 tons of sea fish per year, according to the suggestions by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) , based on the research between 1979 and 2015.
