Vietnam, Indonesia vow to enhance defense ties

HANOI, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam and Indonesia vowed here Monday to further defense ties.

The statement was made during talks between Vietnamese Minister of Defense Ngo Xuan Lich and visiting Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu in capital Hanoi on Monday.

Ryacudu is visiting Vietnam from Sunday to Tuesday at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Ngo Xuan Lich, reported Quan Doi Nhan Dan (People's Army) online newspaper.

Speaking at the talks, the Indonesia guest said as two neighbors at sea and ASEAN members, his country would like to develop friendship cooperative relations with Vietnam for the sake of two peoples.

Lich, for his part, said that the visit will help enhance traditional relations between two armies and two countries, adding substance to Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership.

At the talks, two officials vowed to continue exchanges of delegates, establish defense policy dialogue, boost naval cooperation, share experience on humanitarian assistance, natural disaster rescue, participation of the United Nations peacekeeping, and deepen ties in defense industry.

In addition, two sides agreed to continue mutual consultation, cooperation and support in multi-lateral forums, especially in regional defense-military cooperation mechanisms such as ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting, ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus, reported Quan Doi Nhan Dan.
