BRASILIA, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva would be the most likely candidate to win 2018 presidential elections, according to a new poll released on Friday by the Vox Populi Institute.

The broad poll used likely candidates from major parties, including Lula, Marina Silva of Sustainability Network, Aecio Neves of Brazilian Social Democracy Party, and Ciro Gomes of Democratic Labor Party.

In all potential presidential candidates, Lula came out on top with 28-29 percent of the vote, followed by Silva with 18-19 percent support and Neves with 18 percent of the vote.

However, those who would choose a blank vote reached 20 percent, with around 75 percent saying they associated with no specific political party.

The poll also found that 61 percent of respondents favored early presidential elections, rather than waiting till 2018.

Interim President Michel Temer suffered a defeat as only 17 percent wanting him to stay in office until 2018.

Only 13 percent approve of his performance, against 35 percent holding a negative view of his job.

Suspended president Dilma Rousseff fared no better, with just 18 percent supporting her to return to power.

Vox Populi interviewed 1,500 people in 97 municipalities between July 29 and Aug. 1, 2016.
