SUVA, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has congratulated Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on his appointment as the president of Peru, Fiji's Department of Information announced Saturday.
"I have the honor to convey to you the warmest congratulations and best wishes of the Fijian government and Fijian people on your appointment as president of the Republic of Peru. We wish you every success and look forward to working with you to advance our mutual interests," Bainimarama said.
"I note with great interest your plans to modernize your nation and reduce poverty through such measures as improving access to water, education and health care, boosting public infrastructure and fighting corruption. We are pursuing the same agenda here in Fiji and are keen to explore avenues of future cooperation in these areas, as well as strengthening our bilateral ties generally," the Fijian prime minister added.
Bainimarama also called on Kuczynski for his support in addressing the threat posed to Pacific island nations as a result of climate change.
Kuczynski was sworn in on July 28, calling for a "social revolution" to eradicate poverty and modernize the country.
