SINGAPORE, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) on Friday annouced the launch of a new stamp set in celebration of the upcoming Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Titled "Games of the XXXI Olympiad", the stamp set comes in four designs, featuring sports in swimming, shooting, table tennis, and sailing. The featured sports were selected based on where Singapore's best medal hopes lie in.

The 2016 Summer Olympics, known officially as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, is the 31st iteration of the world's largest international multi-sport event that is held every four years. Known commonly as Rio 2016, this year's games will be held in South America for the first time, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Rio 2016 will be Singapore's 17th representation at the Olympics, since the nation first participated at the Games in 1948. Singapore's recent achievements at the Olympics include a silver medal in table tennis at Beijing 2008 and two bronze medals in table tennis at London 2012.

This stamp issue will go on sale from Friday at all post offices and the Singapore Philatelic Museum.
