BELGRADE, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Serbia on Thursday held a ceremony to mark the 21st anniversary of expulsion of Serbs in a military operation by Croatia during war in the 1990s.

The event, which took place at a suburb of Belgrade, was participated by senior officials and representatives from Serbia as well as Republika Srpska, an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During his speech, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said Serbia will not remain silent on suffering of Serbs in the operation and such tragedy will not be allowed to happen again.

He also pledged to maintain best possible relations with Croatia.

Operation Storm, launched by Croatia in 1995 in the Serb-controlled areas in Croatia, still casts a shadow over the relations between the two Balkan neighbors.

While Serbia views it as a big suffering of Serb people, Croatia regards it as a victory to restore control over a large area of its own territory.

According to Serbia, some 250,000 Serbs had to flee in the operation, which left hundreds of civilians dead.
