BRAZZAVILLE, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will support the Republic of Congo government in the area of land management, especially in drafting of the land policy.
The revelations were made on Wednesday by UNDP Resident Representative in the country Anthony Kwakou Ohemeng Boamath, after he met with Congo's Lands Affairs Minister Martin Parfait Aimee Coussoud Mavoungou in the capital Brazzaville.
The UN official said the lands affairs ministry was crucial for the Republic of Congo to achieve the desired modernization and development.
"Land policy cuts across many other sectors such as agriculture and land management. It will therefore boost the government's economic diversification program," said Boamath.
Congo has decided to diversify its economy and stop depending only on oil which has seen a sharp drop in prices on the international market.
The land management project aims to reinforce the land sector and increase its contribution to the country's GDP and poverty reduction.
The project also seeks to increase people's access to land resources, secure land rights, protect public and community land, and strengthen land management institutions.
