One more victim dies in building collapse in Vietnamese capital

HANOI, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- One more victim was confirmed dead in a building collapse in Vietnam's capital of Hanoi on Thursday, bringing the total fatality of the incident to two, local media reported.

The victims include one male and one female, according to local VNExpress online newspaper. Several others were injured.

The building at Cua Bac street in Hanoi collapsed at around 3:30 a.m. local time Thursday morning (2030 GMT on Wednesday). According to local people, the building was constructed in 1980s. Meanwhile, a neighboring house was conducting excavation for construction.

There were eight people inside the building when the incident occurred. Other people were rescued out of the rubble.

Vietnam's state-run news agency quoted local residents at the site as saying that the incident happened when the excavation was conducting at over one meter deep.

Nguyen Duc Chung, chairman of Hanoi municipal people's committee, requested relevant agencies to review the structure of old houses around the site for safety concerns.
