TOKYO, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday as Wall Street's overnight rise prompted early buying here with the yen's retreat again the U.S. dollar also underpinning a more positive market mood.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 87.67 points, or 0.55 percent, from Wednesday to 16,170.78.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 7.40 points, or 0.58 percent, to 1,279.38.
Notable early gainers comprised mining, brokerage, and fishery and agriculture-linked issues.
