Hillary Clinton fundraiser scheduled for hackers convention in Las Vegas

Source: Xinhua   2016-08-03 19:49:06

LAS VEGAS, United States, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- A fundraiser for U.S. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton' s campaign will be held in Las Vegas at Black Hat, a major cybersecurity conference currently underway in the city.

Jeff Moss, founder of the Black Hat and DefCon cybersecurity conferences, which are being held after Black Hat, will attend the funderaiser on Wednesday, Black Hat public relations manager Meredith Corley told Xinhua on Tuesday.

However, the event is not organized by Black Hat USA 2016, which attracts prominent cyber security experts and hackers from around the world. "It's not a Black Hat show," Corley said.

For anywhere from 100 U.S. dollars for a "Young Professional" to a maximum of 2,700 dollars for the "Host Committee," donors can also mingle with former Homeland Security Department official Jake Braun and the Clinton campaign' s cybersecurity working group coordinator Michael Sulmeyer.

Cybersecurity issues have plagued Clinton' s campaign for months, from her long-running email controversy to the recent hacks of the Democratic National Committee and Clinton' s own campaign network.

The two hour-long fundraiser scheduled for the hackers community will be held just days after new reports surfaced that a number of emails of the Democratic National Committee were published by hackers on the Wikileaks website.

But Black Hat is not a safe place. "Not even the slot machines are safe at Black Hat USA," Neil Wyler, head of the network operations center at Black Hat posted on Twitter.

Whoever comes from the Clinton campaign, it is better to "stay off the network, like turn off their wi-fi and Bluetooth on their phones and pray," Wyler said to Xinhua.
