Vietnam northern mountainous region warned of floods, landslides

HANOI, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Northern mountainous region of Vietnam has been warned of floods and landslides triggered by heavy rain due to Typhoon Nida.

The National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting said on its website on Tuesday that due to the impact of Typhoon Nida, Vietnamese northern region will suffer from heavy rain of 100 to 200 millimeters from Tuesday night local time.

Meanwhile, several places may even witness torrential rain of up to 250 millimeters, said the center.

Floods are forecast on Hong-Thai Binh river system in Vietnam's northern area from Wednesday to Friday.

Typhoon Nida made landfall at 3:35 a.m. Tuesday at Dapeng Peninsula in the city of Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong Province.

The strong typhoon packing winds up to 151.2 km per hour is moving northwest at 25 km per hour and is expected to sweep across the cities of Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Foshan and Zhaoqing to neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, according to Guangdong provincial weather authorities.
