YANGON, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Laos' President Bounnhang Vorachitch will pay an official friendship visit to Myanmar soon, accompanied by Laos' first lady, according to an announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar on Tuesday.

President Vorachith will pay his visit at the invitation of Myanmar's President U Htin Kyaw. The date and detailed plan of visit has not confirmed yet by Myanmar's Foreign Affairs Ministry.

U Htin Kyaw has previously paid a visit to Laos, accompanied by State Counselor and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi.

Aung San Suu Kyi recently returned from Laos after attending ASEAN Foreign Ministers meeting as a foreign minister in late July.

Myanmar-Laos relations and cooperation in recent years were highlighted by the opening of the first-ever friendship bridge across the Mekong River in May last year.

Sharing a border of over 230 kilometers, the two countries established diplomatic relations in July 1955.
