LONDON, July 30 (Xinhua) -- A nine-month-old cat survived a washing machine cycle after climbing in the machine for a nap, local British media reported on Thursday.

Bengal crossbreed Bobby's owner Lisa Keefe, from the Meadows, Nottingham, immediately stopped the machine after she heard a loud thudding sound and found Bobby inside the machine.

"I rushed to the machine and could see the color of his fur mixed in with the quilt. I was petrified and raced to get him out," Keefe said.

Then she sent Bobby to Nottingham Pet Hospital for treatment.

"Bobby was on the verge of collapse as his body was soaked through and his temperature was dangerously low," vet Tamsin Thomas said.

The medics dried Bobby out, kept him warm and gave him IV fluids to treat shock.

After being monitored overnight and stabilizing, Bobby was taken home the next day.

Since the accident happened in June, Bobby has been nominated for a PDSA Pet Survivor award, with previous winners including dog Staffie Ziggy, of Hertfordshire, who survived a 20-inch arrow pierced through his skull, and cat Robbie, from Croydon, who suffered extensive fire burns.
