YUSHAN, CHINA, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Allister Carter reached his first ranking event semifinal in over two years by sweeping past world champions John Higgins 5-0 Friday at the 2016 Snooker World Open in China's Yushan county.
Carter, who last appeared in the semis of a full ranking event at the 2014 China Open, looked at the top of his game as he whitewashed four-time world champion Higgins.
In the semifinals on Saturday the 37-year-old will meet Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, who continued his superb run with a 5-2 victory over Anthony McGill.
"I felt I played quite well since the first frame, all I want to do is just to wait for my chance," said Carter with smile on his face. "It's funny because I went 5-4 yesterday with Daniel Wells, when I went back to the room I saw Peter Ebdon, he said it seemed no match is easy anymore...but today I won fairly easy."
Also on Friday, defending champion Shaun Murphy lost to Joe Perry 5-2 in a late match, while Neil Robertson outclassed David Gilbert 5-2. Enditem
