ABIDJAN, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Cote d'Ivoire Prime Minister Daniel Kablan Duncan on Thursday hailed the cooperation between his country and Burkina Faso in the fight against terrorism.

"I want to hail the exemplary cooperation that prevailed between our security services following attacks in Ouagadougou and Grand Bassam," Duncan said at the opening of a joint cabinet meeting during the 5th summit of Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between Cote d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso.

On March 13, 2016, Cote d'Ivoire's resort city of Grand Bassam came under a terrorist attack that left 19 people dead, while a few months earlier, a hotel in Burkinabe capital Ouagadougou came under a deadly terrorist attack that left 30 people dead.

"It is evident that this scourge of terrorism requires joint responses with increased cooperation in the area of security," the prime minister continued.

"The destiny of our countries and our people are so intertwined that only solidarity and harmonization of our strategies and means will enable us to overcome the major contemporary challenges," he affirmed.

The joint cabinet session is expected to evaluate about 40 cooperation agreements signed between Cote d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso and propose new areas of cooperation.

The joint cabinet meeting is preparing a high level summit meeting between Cote d'Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara and Burkinabe's Roch Marc Christian Kabore on Friday.

The Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between Cote d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso was signed in 2008. It aims to promote cooperation between the two countries in areas of politics, economy, infrastructure, energy, trade, education, culture as well as movement of people and goods.
