WELLINGTON, July 29 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand Finance Minister Bill English travelled to Australia Friday to explore new economic ties between the two countries under the newly re-elected Australian government of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

English said he would meet with Australian Treasurer Scott Morrison and New South Wales state Treasurer Gladys Berejiklian, as well as a range of businesses, to assess the progress of the Australian economy.

"These meetings are an opportunity to discuss trans-Tasman trade and the close economic ties enjoyed by our two nations," English said in a statement.

"It will also be a good opportunity to gather some insights from the newly-formed Turnbull government and its economic agenda."

Turnbull's government was narrowly returned to power in a general election earlier this month.
