TRIPOLI, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Libya's transport minister met here with the British ambassador to discuss the resumption of direct flights from Libya to Europe.
After the meeting, on late Wednesday, Libyan Minister of Transport Milad Ma'tug told reporters that Peter Millett, the British envoy to Libya, offered to help lift a ban of the European Union (EU) on Libyan airlines.
No Libyan airlines are now allowed to enter the airspace of any EU member state, under a European Commission decision made in 2014 over security concerns, following fierce armed combat that caused considerable damage to Tripoli's international airport.
The British ambassador also offered to assist in developing Libya's civil aviation sector, Ma'tug said.
In June, the Libyan government requested that the EU lift the ban on its airlines.
