LOME, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and African Integration Robert Dussey on Wednesday urged African leaders to review plans and strategies for peace on the continent.
The Togolese chief of diplomacy made the call here in his opening speech of a tripartite consultation meeting on peace in Africa ahead of an African Union extraordinary Summit on maritime security to be hold in October this year in Lome.
"It is urgently needed that we review our plans and strategies for the fight for peace on the continent", Mr. Dussey said.
"We need to re-examine our approaches and take the minimum time necessary to think and better plan our actions for peace on the continent", he stressed.
The Lome meeting is a two-day consultation and debate on issues relating to maritime security, blue economy in the Gulf of Guinea and peace promotion in the Sahel region that brings together delegates from Africa, China and the United States.
It is expected to result in a consensus on practical and specific actions relating to the issues at stake.
Robert Dussey believes actions to break the vicious circle of violence and intolerance on the continent should be "shared vision with common targets and objectives achievable through collective planned means and processes".
"Peace and insecurity matters in Africa are frontal challenge that African political leaders must not anymore avoid, ignore or minimize", the Togolese chief of diplomacy said. Enditem
